I'm with Sap1ent. Pretty much every tv show I watch originated on the beeb, iplayer rocks and the bbc news site is top rate.

Was there a prog. called Tele Addicts Pete? If BBC spent money on output and not on no-jobs for the boys, I'd agree it was a good deal. But why are Ministers talking about REDUCING the TV Tax? I'm in favour of a 'pay as you view' system. If I watched TV more than a hour a day, I'd climb the walls with shear boredom. Someone says 'one life, live it.' TV isn't my god.

In principle, the BBC is very good, as has been suggested. However, I do think they have lost their way a bit over the past few years. They have tried to do too much in my opinion. Why have so many channels, if all you are showing is repeats, and all the crappy shows about traffic cops, binmen, traffic wardens, trawlermen, and so on. As Pink Floyd said, "I've got 14 cannels of **** to choose from."
They should stick at making good TV and showing that at prime time, and I can't believe there is never any cricket on. With BBC 3 not on air all day, there is the perfect place to broadcast 1 day internationals and tests.
And thats where the government missed a trick.
They could have had a 2 tier licence, so the basic one got the traditional analogue, but for the extras like the digital channles, a higher fee, and this could have been used to develop these new channels further.
Also, I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to charge the fee per TV, not per household. This ties in with the other thread about obese people. Too many kids sit in their bedrooms all the time, watching TV. If each set cost an annual fee, maybe some parents would not put TVs in the kids bedroom in the first place.

I'm not sure it's really necessary to explain why free healthcare for all individuals regardless of wealth is a progressive step. I'm not sure there's even any negatives associated.

We have had this discussion before.
What free healthcare?
Would you like to explain why my family has to pay nearly £1,800 per month for someone to look after my mother?
If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of the situation, but I thought your mum, or the immediate family, chose to go private.
