I've been reading a lot about it recently, are you for, or against it?

Tricky one this. Whilst incineration, done properly, is a good thing, the type of incineration proposed is not the best or cleanest. I think the best incineration technology is a lot more expensive.

But if only to save the locals from the smell, I would vote no.

If sheepbridge is still an Industrial place... Then i think its the best place for it. The noise shouldnt be an issue, It'l create jobs and help tidy Chesterfield :)

As Pete says, the smell would be vile... Makes me glad i live out the way! The only thing we had to contest about was an Mobile antenna being erected, And that didnt happen.

This is taken from the Incineration website:

"Should you reside or work downward of the proposed Sheepbridge Resource Park site, note it can be passed by the council, subject to agreement by the public health director and the Environment Agency. Note that incineration of waste causes a shortening of lifespan of up to 14 years (seen in Coventry), often in the prime of life by increasing a range of diseases especially heart attacks & cancers. A university led study in Belgium detailed diseases and deaths caused during years 1-5 , 6-10 and 11-20 ending up with a 480% rise in cancer incidence on top of the country’s rise, yet that St Niklaas Incinerator was operating under the EC 2000 directive, as is the proposal. The proposed chimney will spread the damage up to 5 miles depending on weather conditions including Chesterfield, Dronfield,Staveley, Brimington, Arkwright & intervening villages. The proposal appears to deal with hazardous and residual waste in 3 gasification plants each with a 3-foot wide flue. The temperature has been quoted as 850C but that waste needs over 1250C and the system appears unsafe like incinerators."

There are other implications besides Newbold going all smelly. There are a number of firms like Fusion that say they will move away from the area if the plans get approved. Fusion is a big employer as I remember - and their MD came out very strongly against it.

Having lived just outside Shuttlewood near the Coalite plant many years ago, I can promise you that a permanent bad smell will drive people and business away - possibly even impact on the price of housing in the area too.

Just remembered - isn't there supposed to a domed leisure complex being built in that valley?

Tourists aren't going to like that. :(

Assming it's the gasification processthen it has not been properly proved in this country yet and for that reason alone I'm against it.

It's a great process which disposes of problematic waste, produces power with low emissions and recycleable materials but I'd rather it was installed in a few years when it has been proven reliable.

I don't like all the fancy footwork that's been going on. I believe the company who's incinerator it is has said they have put in for permission to burn toxic waste: they said the reason was because the need this permission in case they burn wood with paint on it
